Is there a way to achieve the look of pin-straight hair without the salon or a straightener?

I don't really have hair supplies and I'd like my hair to be really straight. Is it possible? How?Is there a way to achieve the look of pin-straight hair without the salon or a straightener?
well if you have a blow drier that will make your Hair pretty damn straight but if you don't i have noticed that if you comb your hair wet and then put it in a pony tail putting a Hair tie every so inches down the pony tail and then go to bed your hair will be pretty straight when you wake up but it matters how curly your hairIs there a way to achieve the look of pin-straight hair without the salon or a straightener?
It really depends how curly your hair is. If you don't have any hair supplies (straightener, blow drier ect) there's not much that you can do~
a blow dryer woks good, but since a blow dryer would make your hair frizzy, i suggest after you blow dry it, but some ';frizz ease';'; on it
try blow drying it..?

Is it possible to go to a salon and pay to have your hair straightened? with flat iron, not chemicals?

    do most salons do this?

im getting my senior pics done in a few weeks, and i was wondering if i could make an appointment to have them wash/condition and straighten my hair really well. my hair always looks smoother, and lasts much longer when the salon does it, rather than when i do it with my chi.

is this a normal thing to do? would most salons do this easily?

im clueless, obviously :)Is it possible to go to a salon and pay to have your hair straightened? with flat iron, not chemicals?
Yes, they will do it!Is it possible to go to a salon and pay to have your hair straightened? with flat iron, not chemicals?
Yeah. Just tell them, You want it straightened.
just mention what you said in your message and they will do it for you.
    Cosmetologist of 25 years here!!

Yes, you can go and have it flat ironed. Tell them this, but be prepared to pay for it as it takes time...but well worth it.

Your hair always looks better when salon does it because the are using good shampoos, conditioners and probably a thermal protectant as well as a professional ceramic/ionic flat iron. All of these elements make a huge difference.

Hope my answer was helpful. Good Luck!!
yes! Professional stolonsstraighten absolutely. They use high end h straighteners Its not free though usually always have to pay money especially if you want a certain ';style'; ( to flip out ends or add layers or make super sleek) they will most likely wash you hair and use their profesional products before they straighten it to you have to consider that! That stuff isn't cheap!
Yup, they will most certainly do this for you!

Why do hair salons in the South that cater to black hair put so much grease in it?

I wanted to get my hair done for Easter so I went to the hair dresser on saturday in GA (I'm visiting grandmother, im from MA) anyway the lady put so much grease in my hair. I mean my hair style was nice when i walked out the salon, but my scalp was shining and eveytime i touch my hair my hands were so greasy LOL. I had to wash my hair today to get that gunk out. But i realized that lots of black girls in the south with super greasy hair why? my hair is naturally shiny when blow driedWhy do hair salons in the South that cater to black hair put so much grease in it?
I LIVE IN DC AND THEY USE TOOMUCH DAMN GREASEWhy do hair salons in the South that cater to black hair put so much grease in it?
maybe because they dont have the $$ for the newest hair products that arent so greasy. So they pile a bunch on to keep the style in place....in new york and dc they normally have better products, from my experience
It is probably the salon you went to.
It's so humid in the south that the grease is needed to control the hair. Humidity = bad hair.
i guess because of the wheather the sun dries hair out so more grease i guess
Don't know. A better place would have been the ';Hair'; board. You won't get anything but racist answers from the Krackers Kissing Kousins on this board.
LOL yeah I live in Georgia and I know exactly what you are saying. I think it's a south thing LOL
    That's odd,

I live in Georgia and the hair dressers I go to never put grease in my hair. Its always light, bouncy and shiny when finished. Next time you visit, go to another salon.
naturely nappy or curly so inorder to straighten it got to put a lot of grease and hot flat iron

How to start with going to a salon?

I'm 22 years old and have long hair. I want to be able to go to a salon once in awhile to style my hair and sometimes even a cut or color too. But the thing is I have never been to a salon before. Even when I was a child I never went. I want to try something different.

I guess i'm just a little afraid of going and then feeling stupid.

Got any tips or ideas or anything that might help. please post them...How to start with going to a salon?
It's easy. Just go in and let them know it's your first time, and they'll treat you right. I'd try pick a decent salon, ask around and get recommendations from your friends or family. Let them know what you want, and the stylist should work with you. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

So you'll know what to expect....They should sit you in the chair, put a drape over you and have a few minutes of consultation before they start cutting/coloring. They will probably move you to a chair with a sink to wash your hair, then return you to the cutting chair and get started. All you have to do is relax and let them work. It's fun, sometimes at the nicer salons, you get a bit of pampering also...My last time I got a nice scalp massage and a hand treatment thrown in! At salons where the prices are usually lower, you won't get these treatments, but can still have a great experience - it's all in the people who work there. How to start with going to a salon?
Well I had never been to a salon; my aunt was beautician and did my hair for free all my life.

When I moved out of state, I sort of picked a salon, and just .. announced my presence, lol.

Told my new stylist I'm tender headed, I have big fluffy hair and like straight hair. He was very nice and fixed my hair well.
If you go to the salon, they'd be able to tell you what would look good on you.

We can't really tell you what would look good because you didn't post a picture.

    Pedicure in nail salons?

Is it healthy to get pedicure done at nail salons. I have heard pros and cons. What is your opinion?Pedicure in nail salons?
The nail salon that I frequent provides new tools (in an unopened package) for every customer. It depends on which salon. I've also walked out of some grimy ones!Pedicure in nail salons?
Just look around and see if everything looks clean and if they are sanitizing their tools and tubs when they are done with people. Don't forget to check for their licenses! Very important!
I always get mine done at a nail salon - I go to a busy place that has a good rating by our ';town'; and think it's clean.

I have paid big bucks for one at a spa and my pedicure here lasts longer. Go for it.
Where else would you go? I got one last week and it was wonderful. I think you can tell about the cleanliness of a place before you even sit down. You might have to do a little searching and find out where your friends or family go. I think there are a lot of nice salons out there. I definitely couldn't do a better at-home job!
i think its good if you go and look around and it seems clean - i have had no problems
    bring your own tools.
IT HONESTLY DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU GO. I KNOW OF PLACES WHERE YOU HAVE TO BRING YOUR OWN BAG OF MATERIALS (FILES AND PUMUS STONES) THOSE PLACES ARE ALWAYS CLEAN. ALSO.. PLACES THAT CLEAN THE TUBS AFTER EVERY VISIT. ... HOW ABOUT THIS... THE MORE MONEY YOU SPEND THE HIGHER THE SERVICES SO LESS CHANCES OF YOU CATCHING ANTYHING GROSS. HOPE THIS HELPS.
id check it out first, always go with ur first impressions, if they dont clean the pools well enought u could contract a virus on ur legs and feet! also check and make sure they use gloves with they work with u and other customers. if the place looks dirty, i wouldnt trust it. it also might be a good idea to see if they use disinfecting spray after they are done with each person
it truly depends on where you live....i honestly would NEVER goto a vietnemese salon for ANYTHING because they have been known to use improper implements and you NEVER see them sanitize anything...so if i were you i would shop around and find the cleaniest place...just go and sit in the shop and watch what they do...if they meet your standards then that would be the place you should take your business...but that's just me
IMHO One word sums it up....EEEWWW.

Do hair salons cut too much?

like more than you ask for?Do hair salons cut too much?
Oh, everytime! I keep switching hairdressers for this reason. The first one cut it shorter than I wanted; I told the 2nd one to ';trim it'; and she cut it even shorter. So I let it grow out for a couple of months until it was getting out of shape and I just needed it ';shaped up.'; I told the 3rd one to please not cut it much because I have been trying to grow it back out to where it used to be, to please just thin it a little and trim it some to where it has some shape. She cut it shorter than the other 2 did and ruined the progress I had made with growing it back out. Her response was, ';I know it isn't what you want but it's what you need.'; Do hair salons cut too much?
It depends on the place and/or the specific person who's cutting your hair, because not everyone does it the same way. But sometimes, the hairstylists do cut too much, unfortunately. Just make sure you keep an eye on him/her and be adamant about how much you want cut exactly. Like, you might even want to point to where on your hair you want it cut.
sometimes..But the ONLY reason for that is because they cut wet, When your hair is wet, It stretches, So when it drys, It unstretches...OR They girl just dosen't know what she's doing.
Of course they do. It's usually because the hair stylist is jealous of you. You know she totally talks shi* about you when you leave. She probably blogs about you on MySpace.
Yeah...I said keep the length, and it was to my chest and now it's about my collar bone..it's stupid...

Great idea for making a little extra money for your household.

Day spa services and products are best. A quite room with calm music playing while you offer hand and foot massages along with mini-facials would be great. Everyone loves to be pampered. You can also increase your income by offering skin care and beauty products. I sell a line of botanically based beauty products called Arbonne. You could use them on your customers and offer to sell them take home kits as well. This could be a great source of extra revenue. Message or email me for more information.

OK, why are you letting your girlfriend put make up on you? Lol I know my boyfriend would shoot me if I did that to him, haha. But in regards to your question. Some nail places will do eyebrow waxing.

My nail salon I go to does all kinds of waxing, so it just depends on the salon, or the nail place. Just call ahead and ask, then ask for prices.

I pay about $12 where I go, but they do a great job!

Good luck with the make up.

I am goin tanning at a salon for the first time?

Homecoming is October 10th. If I start tanning Septe

ber 28th will I be tan by the 10th of October? And what are some tips? Do I wear suntan lotion? Wear my swim suit?I am goin tanning at a salon for the first time?
Since you have a limited amount of time, the key is to maximize and make the most of your sessions--this means, you must do the beds consistently WITHOUT overdoing it.

I've seen it all, women who need to be tan fast and get waaay too overzealous and end up BURNT for their big day. I would start off in a medium bed [UVB body bulbs, UVA face bulbs] for a SHORT time [6 minutes or less, depending on your skin]. Do this 2-4 times until you feel you have a fairly decent base tan, go ahead and hop in a high pressure bed. What this does is bring all the melanin that you've been storing to the surface of your skin, therefore boosting your tan. The key is to mix up your beds; I reccommend to doing 2-4 medium sessions and then a high pressure. If you go fairly consistently, you will be able to go through this cycle twice.

The next and one of the most important parts is picking a lotion. An accelerator OR soft/light bronzer is the way to go. If you DON'T use a lotion, your skin starts to tan about 6-7 minutes into your session, WITH a lotion your skin will start tanning within 30 seconds. Ask your salon rep. to see what they carry and what they reccommend. Using a dark bronzer is not always good. They DO contain self-tanner and can streak if not applied properly. There are some products out there, like some new Australian Gold lotions that have DermaDark which is a stain free and streak free bronzer. Again, see what your salon carries.

%26amp; Absolutely NO outdoor tanning lotion. It can cause cracks in the tanning bed.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable with, just make sure to avoid tan lines if you'll be able to see them in your dress.

Good luck!I am goin tanning at a salon for the first time?
Be careful with the ';dark tanning lotion'; that the other posters talked about. It contains a fake tanner and depending on your skin, it can make you look orange. Don't jump right up to a high level bed either, those have a higher UVA light. UVA isn't as likely to cause burning as UVB, but it does cause wrinkles and skin aging. My suggestion is to start with a lower bed, at a lower time (If you are fair skinned start with 6 minutes in a 20 minute bed. I am olive skinned and rarely ever burn and I always start at 8 minutes... always err on the side of caution). Whatever you do, DO NOT LET YOURSELF BURN. Some people ';burn and then it turns into a tan'; This is the way it might work with sunlight but it does not work that way with a tanning bed. Burning will actually set you back because you will have to wait a few extra days to be able to use the bed again. When you go up in time limit, go up one minute at a time and ask them to tell you if they change the bulbs. If they change the bulbs you have to lower your time limit because the bed will be way stronger.

Because you have a limited amount of time, I would say tan two days in a row, rest one day and repeat. If you are extra ambitious, tan every day. That is usually what I do but they are now saying that is ';bad';. Who knows. Forget the suntan lotion, it is a stupid, expensive marketing ploy. Instead buy a normal, unscented lotion and check the ingredients to make sure there is no mineral oil. You can have your tanning salon staff double check it for safety if you want. You can also use pure shea butter, it has a natural ';spf 4';. It is super light and you will still tan with it, and get added protection.

    Don't wear your swimsuit.
I don't recommend going tanning in a tanning bed.

But I don't think I can convince you not to so i wouldn't wear anything.. You don't want tan lines with a dress on.

But if you want to be safe, I'd get the sun love self tanner. I love it. :)

It doesn't make you orange or streaky, i promise.

    Sunlove.biz
Do NOT use a bed you will have a higher chance of skin cancer so use the tanning spray and yes wear a bathing suit or a even a strapless bathing suit so swim suit lines don't show in your dress

    Have fun at Homecoming!
If you use a powerful bed you will tan super quick! ALWAYS wear tan lotion and wear your swim suit depending on if you want tan lines or not.. you dont have to wear it.
use 60x dark night tanning lotion and lay in the highest level tanning bed and u will get dark fast!

Where is a good upscale nail salon in the bay area?

I am tired of these dinky little nail salons with one or 2 people working there and its kinda old feeling....anyone know of an upscale elegant spa/nail salon in the bay area?Where is a good upscale nail salon in the bay area?

it's a charming place, not overly upscale. prices are reasonable. keep in mind that this is not a spa, but a nail salon. however, they do offer waxing. parking can be a problem because this is in the downtown area.

no. it's not healthy, and it's stupid and materialistic for a 12 year old to even care about being tan.
no its not normal. and that mom would be a terrible parent. shes basically giving her child skin cancer.
it's not really normal for a 12 year old to go to a tanning salon period.
Way too young, and illegal, if its for tanning beds. If its spray tanning I guess thats ok[:
That is kind of young for tanning anyways....

Can A light skinned african american person get tan at a tanning salon?

im a mixed girl hlf blk hlf white..i have a very pretty complextion but its prettier with a tanCan A light skinned african american person get tan at a tanning salon?
yes everyone can get darker no matter what skin color when tanning, though i highly advise not to tan...tanning is actually damage to ur skin. its ur cells getting injured. a burn is ur cells dying...damage to ur skin doesn't discriminate against skin color...instead try a spray tan at the salon...they wont turn u orange if the person behind the counter is experienced as well as the fact that the formula has changed. its healthier for ur skin. just follow directions on what to do before and after getting a spray tan so that it comes out nice and even...you can find that info online at the mystic tanning site...i think they give the best instructions on hwo to get the best spray tan...just substitute their products for ones u can afford and can buy where u live, like vaseline is a good substitute for the mystic tan blending cream. and find an exfoliator with out oil, like a home made sugar scrub or salt scrub with out the oil.

    http://www.mystictan.com/consumers/get-r鈥?/a>

if u must tan using UV radiation even though i warned u, even though ur tanned naturally, u might want to add a minute to the base tan time...u want to start out at 7-8 minutes and work ur way up from there...if they say they have new bulbs, lessen the time by a minute or more depending on how harsh the bed is u get...the more expensive the bed, the better results and the less chance of burn...and less burns u have in ur life means it also a tiny bit safer for ur skin in the chance of skin cancer, if u compare burns to tans that is. i find that australian gold is a good tanning lotion to start off with because it cheaper...dont be fooled byt tanning salons saying that its safe and alright if u tan because its good for u because u get vitamin D, the fact is u only need 10 minutes of natural sun, meaning less than one minute in a bed at most...which isn't enough to tan at all when getting ur daily dose of vitamin D, a tan is basically ur skin saying no more please, it hurts. so a lot of what they say is BS on how its good for u. they only say it beause its promoting them...lol...i jsut wanted u to know the dangers of tanning is all...i tan sometimes, i know the dangers, i try to avoid msot of the time, but i still tan just because i like it and i know the potential consequences are higher when i do...Can A light skinned african american person get tan at a tanning salon?
    Yes.

Tanning beds give you a heavy dose of UV rays for a short period of time, whereas natural sunlight gives you a low dose for long periods of time. Either way, your skin should get darker, unless you don't tan at all.

Be careful to take care of your skin -- too much suntanning can damage it.
Yes you can! Besides from getting color, you need 15 minutes of unprotected sun a day to maintain healthy vitamin D levels. By tanning indoors, you can achieve both of these.
If you get darker in the sun, you'll also get dark in a tanning bed.

Ask whoever's working there for their opinion... darker skinned girls ahve more melanin, which can act as a natural sunscreen so it may take longer for you to tan.
Yes, you can get a tan from a tanning salon, but wouldn't do that since Summer is coming and you can tan naturally with the help of the sun.
Yes! If you tan in the sun you will ten better at a salon. because of the technology they have in the beds.
It all depends on how your skin reacts to things like that.

Some people burn, some people tan.

If you wanna tan you might as well go outside and put on some sunscreen lol Sunlight's free.
yes, i know of a few girls that are african american that

go to the tanning salon because they have light skin
    ya

Do i need to wear sunscreen while tanning at an indoor tanning salon?

I was in an indoor tanning salon and some parts of my body got sunburned although the UV rays were at a 2% ( much less than the actual sun rays)Do i need to wear sunscreen while tanning at an indoor tanning salon?
No you don't need to wear sunscreen. You just need to wear sun tan lotion to help your tan. You should talk to one of the employees to help you decide on what lotion would work best with your skin type. You probably stayed in the tanning bed too long which is why you burned. They say if you start to feel really hot you should get out right away because that is a sign that you are going to burn. The length of time you should stay in a tanning bed also depends on your skin type as well so you should discuss that with the salon. Hope this helps!Do i need to wear sunscreen while tanning at an indoor tanning salon?
It would kind of be a wast of money to use sunscreen at a tanning salon, don't ya think.
You should read up on tanning bed safety.

If you know pattaya and some people there, just call or email the establishments where you want the gift certificates from and ask them. Most of them are willing to do that and they also can mail the gift certificates to a thai adress for some extra bahts.

  • How old do you have to be to go into a tanning salon?

18, 16, 14?How old do you have to be to go into a tanning salon?
In most states you have to be sixteen AND have a parental signature. If you are 18 or older, than you have free range to tan wherever and whenever you'd like. How old do you have to be to go into a tanning salon?
I dont know the exact age but I know my friend goes and she's 14.
if you are under 18, you need a parent. you can be any age though.
at the one i had to go to u had to be 16. my friend who is 15 went and had her mom sign a paper and she can tan as much as she wants to now too =)
i have seen 12 year old sgo in, it al depends where you go. Usually the age is 13 or 14.
you can tan as early as your parents will let you. alot of the highschool girls like to tan before prom and they are what 15,16,17. so i dont know how old you are, but i dont think its a problem
first time if you're under 18 your parents have to sign saying it's okay and all that jazz. (LOL) then after that 14 and older at places where i live. These 2 places i know are 14 and older after 1st time but those are the only salons i've ever been in: TANNIN BARE and SUN TAN CITY.

    hope i helped!

    :]

alot of 15 year old girls in my school have done it, but think before you get it done, becasue even though it wares off in a while, it looks fake and orange and disgusting on every single person i've ever seen with it. it looks likes you've put way to much foundation on, but all over your body. it's obvious when you get a fake tan, just lay out in the sun for a while and get a real one, it's safer and it looks a hell of alot better.

How do I get my salon-done highlights bright again?

I'm a hair washing addict so my recent blonde highlights went from super gorgeous Playboy bunny platinum to an ashy-medium blonde. :( I'm crying because I just don't know what to do. I might go back to my salon, but my Mom said I could use this one shampoo %26amp; it would brighten. Any ideas?? I'm freaking bawling my eyes out. :(How do I get my salon-done highlights bright again?
Over time no matter what your hair will fade slightly.Afew tricks I learned was getting a shower purifier from lowes which removes chlorine and additives from your water that dull the color .Another option is color depositing shampoos for platinum hair and jirmack shampoo for silver white and blondes bring out the highlights again
